Vanishing Point is an exhibition presenting works created by Joseph Smolinski over the past decade. Smokinski is Professor of Practice and Coordinator of the Art and Creative Technology program at the University of New Haven. Many of the pieces were fabricated at the Schuab Makerspace, where Smolinski often teaches Sculpture and Digital Fabrication.

The exhibition explores the fragile balance between human industry and the natural world. In his Open Water series, Smolinski meticulously layers graphite renderings with floods of water and pigment, evoking the ocean’s vast energy potential and its critical role in sustaining life on Earth. His Sea Coal Mosaics, including Mourning Sun, transform carbon-rich fragments gathered from the Long Island Sound into images of the setting sun—linking deep geological time to the fleeting combustion of fossil fuels and the accelerating climate crisis they fuel.
